Recreation in Mayer
Many events are offered throughout the year in Mayer, organized by some of the community organizations.
The main summer festival is the Rising Communmity Festival, which features a car show that attracts car enthusiasts from all over the region.
The festival in 2011 also included a number of historical reenactments to commemorate the city’s 125th year, a kiddie parade, numerous youth activities, face-painters, and a parade.
The fire department is also an important part of Mayer’s activities with their twice-annual fish fry fundraisers, one in the fall and one in the spring, to support the activities of the department.
The Mayer Baseball Club continues to offer good baseball during the summer, and the city parks offer youngsters opportunities, including t-ball and youth baseball on the Old Schoolhouse fields next to city hall.
Watertown-Mayer community recreation offers the t-ball in the summer and soccer in the fall. Information is available at (952) 955-0280.
The Mayer Farmers Market takes place along Highway 25 downtown. The hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Mondays from June through October.
Mayer Lutheran High School and Zion Lutheran Church are key to activities in Mayer. The 14th annual Crusader Classic Golf Tournament took place Sept. 10, 2011 at Island View Golf in Waconia.
Mayer Lutheran High School sponsors a rummage sale in the summer, which supports several projects.
Popular school activities which draw crowds include the fall musical, the Christmas concert, the jazz band concert, and the spring concert.
When summer ends, Zion Lutheran School begins. The school hosts an annual fall festival in October, featuring food, fun, and children's games.
At Christmas, the Lutheran elementary school presents a special Christmas program in the Lutheran High School fine arts auditorium. The high school also presents a Christmas program, featuring a concert choir and wind ensemble.
